Ten brave junior sailors ventured out into the breezy and overcast conditions at Summerleaze Lake for Maidenhead Sailing Club's first Optimist Open since 2008. All ten, aged between eight and twelve (some experiencing their very first competitive Open) sailed admirably, showing skill and determination to get round the course in freshening south easterly winds.

Power boat training is important to the club and fellow members, this is why we take it seriously. If you have not been on a course you will find it very informative and useful. I know that the Club has a number of experienced helms, let us give you a PB2 certificate by direct assessment, which takes about 3hrs. We are in a great position to have increased our number of Power Boat Instructors to nine and our fourth boat has arrived, so we can now be more flexible.

Since the beginning of the year we've seen an increase in wintery conditions, the wind speeds have certainly picked up as the south of the UK has seen several storms pass through. Whilst we all are very aware how much fun this is on the water when sailing or racing we also want to be sure that our boats are safe in the boat park.
Can all members with boats berthed in our boat park ensure that their boats are tied down appropriately. With blustery weather set to continue we want to make sure that everyones boats are safely stored at the club. No-one wants to find their boats damaged by a neighbour who didn’t tie their boat down. Remember that many insurance companies insist that boats are tied down when stored in a boat park, it has to be said that a few of the double handers aren’t tied down. The responsibility of the boats in the boat park ultimately rests with their owner.
Happy Winter Sailing...
Eric Twiname Youth and Junior Team Racing Championship 2014, at Oxford Sailing Club, Farmoor Reservoir, 18 – 19 October 2014.
This annual two-day event, one of the highlights of the RYA’s Racing calendar, was very popular with the Junior and Youth class associations, clubs, schools and individual teams around the country competing over a series of head-to-head team races. The event provides the nation’s young sailors the opportunity to develop their boat handling, rule understanding and team work whilst racing in a fun yet competitive arena.
