First weekend of sailing for a while
- Details
With HMG relaxing a little on lockdown from the 13th May, it was good to see members socially distancing themselves on the water. The weekend of the 16th and 17th May saw a steady flow of members taking to the water. Both sailors and paddle-boarders were on the water and all kept clear of each other. Most were in single handers the only 2 man boats were those of same household groups, and it was great to see them as well.
On the Sunday, whilst many of the boats were covering the whole of the lake there was a period of time when the lasers were following each other round some of the marks, at the top end of the lake.
Just a quick reminder for those unaware. There are no formal events going ahead at the club and that includes racing.
- Social distancing to be followed at all times – guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/staying-safe-outside-your-home/staying-safe-outside-your-home
- Leisure / recreational sailing and paddle-boarding permitted. Double handed sailing only permitted with same-household members
- New members applications welcome (experienced sailors / paddleboarders)

As we are not yet allowed to do the physical sailing, like some others in the club the Y&J's are also Virtually sailing. Last week was the first time and even if you are not an experienced helm try your hand at this. Many use computer games etc to pass the time of day. Try your luck against other members of the club.

Maidenhead virtual Championships final Runners and riders
- Details
Maidenhead due to its excellent active membership and committee has been organising Virtual racing on Thursdays and Sundays with the ultimate goal of representing Maidenhead at the regional RYA championships.
We have run a 21 race series and the top 20 will Compete on Saturday night 8.00 pm in a 5 race series (3 to count) shoot out to find out who will represent the club.
Runners and riders. Top 10
Sam Walton (topper 009) 4 race wins. Winner of race series and very consistent throughout, has the ability to fight back from difficult positions, youth on his side and nimble fingers hopefully the pressure will not get to him. Odds 9/4
Adam Meekings (Adam 14) 5 race wins. Competitive and focussed with a good solid race series behind him, as at Maidenhead when sailing his Laser can switch off at times which can cost him, don’t rule him out though . Odds 7/2
Ian Stone (Stonesy) Quiet and polite but deadly on the race course, Ian due to work commitments could only race on Sundays but won 6 of his 9 races that he competed in. The big money is on him short odds though. Odds Evens.
Gary Bullock (Mutley) 1 race win. Short but not short of confidence he believes he can win this but very unlikely always an excuse and never his fault, will be an unpopular winner if he does. Odds 5/1
Tom Knight (TomK) 0 race wins. Always top 5 but feel this won’t be enough come Saturday night. At 17 I’m sure he has other things on his mind. Try to focus Tom for just 30 minutes and you will never know. Odds 5/1
Sammy Isaac Johnson (Sammyblueij) Full time professional sailor started the series well but has gone off the boil. Too many penalties on the race course due to pushing the rules as normal. Outside chance though Odds 11/2

In the meantime look at the results. It seems no one wants to give their real name for some reason!.

Living in a Virtual World

While we are not able to get on the water we are still tying to operate normally, well almost.
Instead of going to the bar for a drink how about bringing the bar to your home. Pour yourself your favourite drink, log on via Zoom ( https://zoom.us/j/6089191548?pwd=a1JvQ0V6OHdvSVIzUmE2NU1WVUxKdz09 )and have a chat. The bar will be open from 7:00pm till 7:40. May we suggest that if you have not used Zoom, try a little earlier to get set up and see what it is all about.
Luckily the RYA have released VR Sailing, so now on a Thursday and Sunday evening at 8:00pm, we can have a bit of fun on our virtual lake. to join in email Clara on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to join the WhatsApp group because that is where you will find the weekly codes to take part. In true MSC fashion we have even set up a series on Sailwave that can be found on the Results page of the website. It is using the High Point Scoring (CHIPS) system. so don't be confused about the confusing numbers.
To try VR sailing click here . You will need to login and get set up so try early and have a play first...….
