Two races were held in the morning with the Standards going first, followed by a mixed fleet of Radials and 4.7’s. David Goddard of Bewl Valley SC stamped his authority on the Standards open by winning both of the 4 lap morning races. Adam Meekings of MSC was proving to be the person to beat in the Radials, while Sam Nichols and Richard Hudson of MSC were battling for the 4.7 crown. The course made use of all of the lake, starting near Purple, beating up to Orange, then White, Red, Green, Black and finally round Yellow to beat to the finish. After a very warming lunch (which all of us who were on the water really appreciated), a further 2 races were run. The first was similar to the morning, except the Radials and 4.7’s were on 3 laps. The final race of the day was shortened to two laps, and both fleets started together. This was perhaps one of the most exciting races for MSC in that Richard Hudson stole a march on the rest of the fleet with an excellent start and only lost the lead to a Standard who called water at white. All in all, although cold, it was a great days racing and MSC Laser Captain, Adam Meekings, thanked all the volunteers who helped with race duty or prepared the lunch and after racing cakes. On a cold and windy Saturday 24th March, Maidenhead hosted their Laser open. It was well attended with 8 members from MSC and 13 visitors.
