The first Maidenhead Open Meeting of the 2008 season was held on Easter Saturday.

Weather conditions were marginal with force 5, gusty winds throughout the day. This made sailing difficult enough, but there were three or four occasions where squalls of driving sleet and force 6 gusts made the racing very exciting - some would say scary!

Laser Opem Meeting 2008

In spite of this we managed to attract an entry of 19 brave (insane) sailors and, even more incredibly, we completed 4 short and incident packed races. The fleet was made up of  6 home sailors and 12 visitors and were split into a Standard Fleet (12 boats) and a Radial + 4.7 fleet (7 boats).

Each race was limited to  +/- 30 minutes to make sure that competitors had enough stamina to complete all the races and most of them achieved that and had a great time with us. All races were completed with no recalls and no protests and these helms can be proud of  both their professionalism and discipline on the water and their courtesy while ashore.

Congratulations to all these helms who deserve huge credit for sailing in such challenging conditions
