Saturday Sailing Report

End of Autumn Season Regatta

18 Juniors turned up on 6th May for our Spring Regatta, the weather was good, and we even got some reasonable wind in the morning.

Two sets of races were run, one for Optimists and one for a mixed fleet of Topazes and Toppers, with start time adjusted to form an equally matched pursuit race.  Three races were held for both groups, and the results were as follows:

Optimists

The races were dominated by the Woffinden girls, although at time seriously challenged by Harris Maidment, Holly Storr and Molly Cutler, and with Lawrence Doe and Myles Rankin pushing hard in their first major race.  First three places were taken by:

  1. Hannah Woffinden
  2. Kate Woffinden
  3. Harris Maidment

Mixed Pursuit

All races were dominated by Tom Weeks, who was only ever really challenged by Drew Rush or Ed Nicholls - who did manage to beat him in the final race.  All three were heavily challenged at times in the first two races by Sophie Cutler (Topper), Callum Duffy (Topaz) and Camilla Price and Emmie Franklin (Topaz helm & crew), but it was Adam Ford (Topper) who pushed through to 3rd place in the last race.

  1. Tom Weeks (Topper)
  2. Ed Nicholls (Topaz)
  3. Drew Rush (Topper)

So Tom Weeks took home the Junior Cup and Hannah Woffinden took home the Saturday Series Shield – well done!

Also we said thanks to Janet Woffinden and Jane Ford for making us lunch every Saturday throughout the series – especially when it was really cold!

Optimist winners, plus Janet Woffinden and Jane Ford.

Don't worry, we'll get you a report and a half for this cracker!
