After an absence of more than twenty years Optimist sailors made a very welcome return to Maidenhead Sailing Club which hosted a coached open meeting on 27th May.
In spite of the rather unpromising weather conditions 24 boats in two groups turned out for the morning programme which consisted of a short practice race followed by the first points race. The wind for all three races was from the west, gradually dropping in strength as the day wore on. In the afternoon Race Officer, Trevor Nicholls, decided to set a shorter course for race 3.
The Main fleet winner was Katie Russell (Dorchester) followed by Will Harris (Papercourt) and Charlotte Bonella (Papercourt)
The Regatta fleet was dominated by Sammy Bonella (Papercourt) with 3 straight wins. She was followed by Richard Thomas (Papercourt) and Christopher Hudson (Maidenhead).
